What the bible teaches us about getting rich

Posted by admin on September 30, 2013

According to Tobit 4:21 (New American Bible)”You will be a rich man if you fear God,avoid all sin,and do what is right before the Lord”. Most of us already know that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of all wisdom. Now we also learn that it is the  foundation of riches. This is especially true if you want to get rich by following the teachings of the bible.

If you really want to fear God then you have to learn a lot more about him through reading the bible, listening to the word of God on a regular basis. You cannot say you fear God, if you do not try to find out what He wants, what he loves or does not love. If you do not know all these you cannot be steadfast in your service. Yet according to Tobit 4:6(New American Bible)”If you are steadfast in your service , your good works will bring you success, not only to you, but also to all those who live uprightly”.

To be steadfast in doing good work means that you are consistent in doing the will of God in your daily lives. This means you have prayed so regularly that God knows you by name. He knows you because you are always talking to Him and presenting your plans, your dreams, your problems to Him. You always ask for His blessings while at the same time, you try to help others as much as you can. If you want to get blessings and riches . you have to be prepared to give alms to others. According to Tobit 4:16 (New American Bible) “Give to the hungry some of your bread, and to the naked some of your clothing. Whatever you have left over, give away as alms : and do  not begrudge the alms you give.” Giving cheerfully to God and to those in need would help to open your hands. The funny thing about open hands is that you need to open your hands before you can receieve.

Finally to be successful when need to bless the Lord  throughout our daily lives. After all, we all know we are serving a living God who knows all our desires, fears, troubles and hopes. According to Tobit 4:19 (New American Bible) “At all times bless the Lord God, and ask Him make to make all your paths straight and to grant success to all your endeavors and plans.” Amen.

Hi Mary, Your blog is wonderful and utlnfpiig, thanks for sharing these thoughts. One way i give is through sharing my gift of nursing with others. It is part of my job, yes, but I try to go further than just what is required. When I bandage a hand or wrap a hurting wrist or arm, I pray over them as I wrap or bandage them. I pray over their pain and their circumstances that make them have to work in a place that often causes pain just by doing their work on a daily basis. If you can do it with a smile, when you are tired, with a joke or cheerful comment when inside you are feeling down, or patience, blessed patience when you are on your last nerve, it is my gift, and I remember it is for Jesus, it is in gratitude for the gift of nursing I have been given to share.Kathryn Torrey
