How to remain happy throughout the holiday season

Posted by admin on November 19, 2014 with No Comments

Depending on where you live in the world, you will soon be experiencing my different holidays in the coming weeks and months. In the United States, Thanksgiving is round the corner.  Thereafter will come Christmas and New Year. For others it will also include Boxing day. This is not an exhaustive list. Whatever you celebrate it is important to find ways to help  you remain happy during this period.

Why is  this important? Well, though this is  supposed to be a time of joy and happiness,  for a large number of us, it is time of stress. The stress comes from the struggle to manage time well, to buy presents for our friends and our loved or from worrying about money.Sometimes, the problem is not that people do not have enough money, but that a lot of people want to spend more money than they have because they want to impress those they are giving presents or because they  are competing with others. sadly this competition can even be among parents, brothers and sisters, friends or even grandparents.

The problem with this approach is that it will make you sad because it is not grounded in gratitude and cheerfulness. Remember that God loves a cheerful giver. This does not only apply to when we are making donations to the church or to charities. It also refers to how we give our time , our goods and services. This is why one of the first steps you have to take if you want to be happy this holiday season will be, to ask God to help

First, present your plans to God. Tell Him you intentions and tell Him your fears and anxieties. You will be happy if you act with the right intentions . You will be happy if you try your best without going out of your way to get others to approve of your action. If you act hoping that others will be impressed, you end up being disappointed. Why? It is difficult to read the mind of others. Secondly  you may not have enough money to buy  precisely what want. Yet, if you focus on them you miss the peace and serenity that comes from looking inwards.

If you want to be happy, this holiday season, write down your plan. Make a to-do list. Cross out things on your wish list that are too expensive or too stressful for your budget, even if you can afford it. Watch your time.Don’t try to do too many things at a time. There is only 24 hours in a  day. Get enough sleep. Pat yourself on the back. Be thankful to God for both the things you were able to do and the ones you were not able to do.  Be grateful for live. An attitude of gratitude will make you happy. Do not focus only on your daily irritations and challenges. One strategy is to write down all the positive experiences of your day to day life.
